Since arriving to Raleigh in 2011, Executive Chef and Partner Oscar Diaz has helmed two acclaimed restaurants in its vibrantly growing culinary scene. Diaz moved to North Carolina after having begun his culinary career working through the ranks in Michelin-starred French restaurant Alize of Las Vegas and Los Angeles’s well renown Patina. Shortly thereafter, he teamed with business partner Charlie Ibarra to open Jose and Sons, a genre bending concept that melds the duo’s Mexican roots with local Southern inspirations. In 2017, Diaz developed a contemporary, diversely flavored menu celebrating the bounty of locally caught seafare for the pair’s new seafood concept Cortez Seafood + Cocktail. If you ask Chef Diaz, the two restaurants are indicative of a traveling soul telling his story through the lens of a first generation American. The restaurants have been featured in the New York Times, Time, USA Today, and on the Food Network. In 2019 Chef Diaz received his first nomination as a semifinalist for the James Beard Best Chef Southeast award.
