In 2000 at the age of 29, Pax Mahle founded Pax Wine Cellars with his wife Pamela and has been creating provocative and conversation starting wines ever since.
Pax’s focus has always been on the vineyard, what makes each vineyard unique and how best to emphasize that singularity in the bottle. Extensive tasting, research and travel have helped Pax achieve his goal of producing wines that break the conventional mold of California wines.
Pax Mahle was named “Best New Winemaker” by Food & Wine Magazine in June 2005, and has been included in Wine & Spirits Top 100 Wineries for both Pax Wine Cellars and Wind Gap Wines.
Over the years, Pax has mentored many young winemakers. Provided them with space and winemaking equipment in his winery for these bootstrap startups to produce their own wines. This mentorship has helped young winemakers meet growers to purchase grapes, introductions to distribution networks to sell wine and most importantly the patience to produce a natural product in a style that inspires them and sets them apart.
Recently with the proliferation of floods and fires in California, Pax has worked with and created organizations to help those in the wine industry that have been affected by these natural disasters.
Today, Pax hopes to inspire people to create and drink wines from organically grown grapes that are produced without unnatural additions and push the conversation forward on freshness and transparency.
